Raise a pay issue with your employer

We're calling on all general practice employers in England to give their nursing staff a pay rise, in line with increased funding for the 2024/25 financial year.

Earlier this year, the Westminster government announced a 6% pay uplift for salaried practice staff in England, including all nursing team staff, employed by GP surgeries that provide NHS services.

If you haven't heard from your employer about this pay increase, or your employer is not transparent about the pay you should receive, these letter templates can support you to raise this issue with your employer.

Ask for a pay raise: letter template

Dear [insert name of manager]

I'm writing to you as my employer regarding the 2024 pay award for all salaried practice staff.

On 29 July 2024, the Department of Health and Social Care a pay rise of 6% for salaried GPs and practice staff. This pay increase has been funded by government

NHS England confirmed that this 6% pay award has been for all practice staff: 鈥淭he uplift to the Global Sum is calculated to cover all practice staff 鈥 not just GP partners and salaried GPs. This includes practice nurses, reception, management and other practice staff. We firmly expect GP partners to honour the intent of this uplift and award the full 6% pay rises to all their staff.鈥

Will you confirm that I will receive the full 6% increase to my salary? Can you please also confirm what backdated pay to April 2024 I can expect to receive?

I am very happy to discuss this further if needed, but I do consider that I am entitled to this. Therefore, I hope the matter can be resolved without recourse to any formal process.

I look forward to hearing further details on my 2024/25 pay from you soon.

Many thanks,

Ask for pay rise calculations: letter template

Dear (insert name of manager)

I'm writing to ask for further information about the pay uplift of 6% for general practice salaried staff, announced by the UK government this summer.

I understand that the additional funding will be available in the November global sum payment.

You have advised that I will be paid [insert the information from your employer] and not 6% as announced by the government.

I would like to understand why I am not being paid a 6% increase in full. I request that you provide me with the full financial details of what funding the practice has received from government, and the calculations you have used as my employer to decide on my pay rise for this year.

Please provide this information as soon as possible upon receipt of this letter.

Many thanks
