POLICY: The nursing contribution to the future of out of hours services in Scotland

31 August 2015
A submission by the Chief Nursing Officer in Scotland to the National Primary Care Out of Hours Review, endorsed by RCN Scotland and the Scottish Executive Nurse Directors
Nursing is already making a significant contribution in the out of hours context across primary, intermediate and acute care.

To maximise this potential we need to learn from and scale up on initiatives where we are seeing tangible benefit for our patients through enhanced nursing roles. We must truly embrace the team approach in its widest sense, recognising the range of skills to be harnessed if we are to centre our care and service pathways around the needs of our public.

Submitted to the Scottish Primary Care Out of Hours Review, this paper set out how nursing can contribute to a future model of primary care.
