The Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England

23 December 2008
In April 2009 a new regulator of health and social care began work in England. This briefing provides details on the context for the new Care Quality Commission (CQC), its functions, aims and key staff and ongoing work by the RCN to shape and influence the approach taken by the CQC.
The way in which the CQC operates will affect the impact on patients and staff across all providers and commissioners of care. This includes when and how inspections will take place and the information which will need to be gathered and provided to the CQC. The RCN will be working to access the impact as soon as more is known about the approach that the CQC will take.
